We will Miss, Helio Gracie, the father of Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Our Beloved Professor and friend, Gracie Jiu Jitsu Legend, Grandmaster Helio Gracie, passes on in Brazil.
Our deepest sympathy to Royce and the entire Gracie Family. While we are sad and feel an immense loss, we will honor and celebrate his life by living the examples he gave of positive attitude and the joy of life long learning. His Art, Gracie Jiu Jitsu, gives those of us who are small, weak, and vulnerable, hope, as well as a fighting chance, in the face of overwhelming obstacles.
“Helio Gracie is a true living master. What he sparked in his students lives forever.”

With Respect I met this man at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, California; the same day I met Royce.
It was the day after Royce’s fight in K1 in Los Angeles at the Colliseum.
I believe in this saying by the Cherokee Indians and I’ll pass it along here as a token of sorrow and remorse in the loss of a Great Man.
When you were born and came into this world, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice – The Cherokee
I believe Helio lived a good life, and my heartfelt sympathies go out to The Gracie Family.
Every Gracie I have ever met, has been humble, respectful, and had a great sense of Humor! Grandmaster Helio raised his children correctly and passed this down his bloodline! He’ll continue to live through all of you.

My heart goes out to the Gracie family, especially Royce. Ultimately this is a great loss for all of us. As students of Royce I feel that this is a passing of my own distant relative, as I feel pain for Royce’s loss. Grand Master Helio Gracie was bigger than life. His legacy will last for generations. Much as the legacy of the great swordsman Mushashi, Jugoro Kano, or Mas Oyama. He was an innovator & national hero in Brazil, as well as a hero and legend to many people around the world. Thank you for your tireless efforts to advance jiu jitsu and provide a way of living that teaches honor and justice to all that follow this path. Rest in peace and thank you Helio.

Kwanjangnim Jim,
There are so many qualities that Grandmaster Helio had, they are far too numerous to recount.
His compassion, kindness, and gentle being will be sadly missed by us all. He touched so many of us, too many to count. May God’s grace and strength be with the Gracie Family.
Words alone can not express enough our heartfelt sorrow at your loss.
May the peace of God be with you during your time of sorrow.

Mr. Helio Gracie was the Father of modern Martial Arts. He laid the path for the immense success of Martial Arts at the dawn of the Third Millenium. He definitely honored his name (Helio= Sun). My condolences to the Gracie family.
